अरुणा असफ़ अली
अरुणा असफ़ अली यांचा जन्म 16 जुलै 1901 मध्ये बंगाल राज्यातील कालका येथे एका कर्मठ क़ुटुंबात झाला.त्यांच मूळ नाव अरुणा गांगुली त्यांचा स्वभाव स्वतंत्र विचार सरणीचा होता . सन 1942 मध्ये महात्मा गांधी यांनी भारत छोडो आंदोलनाचा पुकारा केला सरकाराची पर्वा न कारताच सम्पूर्ण आयुष्य देशासाठी अर्पण केले .पारम्पारीक शिक्षण न घेताच लाहोरच्या ख्रिस्ती मीशनरी शाळेत शिक्षण घेतले.त्यांनी वयाच्या18 व्या वर्षी आपण देशासाठी काहीतरी करावे म्हणून असहकार चळवळीत उड़ी घेतली.पुढे असफअली यांच्याशी त्यांचा विवाह झाला.पतीचीं साथ मिळाल्याने 1930 ते1941 या काळात त्यांना ऐकवेळा अटक झाली परंतु त्या मागे हटल्या नाहीं नुसते तुरुंग भरुन उपयोग नाहीं ही त्यांच्या लक्षात आल्यावर त्या सुमारे चार वर्षे भूमिगत राहील्या.सन 1946 मध्ये त्यांचे वारंट रद्द झाले.स्वातंत्र्य मिळाल्यावर त्या यूनेस्कोच्या मेक्सिको येथील परिषदेस डॉ.
राधाकृष्णन यांच्या नेतृत्वाख़ालिल शिष्टमंडळात सदस्य म्हणू गेल्या होत्या .सन 1956 मध्ये ते दिल्लीच्या पहिल्यामहापौर झाल्या.त्यांना सोवीएतलँड नेहरू पुरस्कार ,लेनिन पुरस्कार ,इंदिरा गांधी पुरस्कार एकात्मता पुरस्कार ,आंतरराष्ट्रीय सामंजस्याबद्दल नेहरू पुरस्कार असे अनेक पुरस्कार त्यांना मिळाले आहेत. देशासाठी अनेकांनी आपल्या जीवानाची आहुती दिली आहें . त्यांचे ही स्मरण आपण ठेवणे आवश्यक आहें.त्या साठी हा एक छोटा प्रयत्न .त्यांचा मृत्यु 30 ऑगष्ट१९९६ वयाच्या 97 व्या वर्षी त्यांचे निधन झाले.
